AURA Therapeutics’ Super Sativa is the cultivar Banjo, a 23% THC Sativa-dominant medicinal cannabis flower. Banjo is a cross between Tangelo F2 and Boost BX1. Grown in Canada, AURA Therapeutics’ Super Sativa contains <2% CBG and has a terpene profile that includes Myrcene, Pinene, Limonene, and Caryophyllene.
(Full disclosure: The genetics part of this review is copied and pasted from my review of Peak Harvest’s 25 CitrusQuest.)
Tangelo is the result of crossing Tangerine Sunrise and Gorkle. The cultivar’s aroma is a bright, tangy blend of fresh tangerines with a touch of earthy sweetness, driven by a terpene profile rich in Limonene, Caryophyllene, and Myrcene. Regarding flavour, Tangelo delivers a zesty citrus taste, complemented by subtle herbal and pine notes. Tangelo is celebrated for its uplifting and energizing effects. Its clear-headed euphoria also makes it a favourite among patients in the US seeking relief from stress, anxiety and depression without heavy sedation.
Boost is a cross of Blueberry and Sweet Tooth. Its aroma is a sweet, fruity blend with strong blueberry notes and subtle hints of candy-like sweetness, thanks to its rich terpene profile dominated by Myrcene, Ocimene, and Caryophyllene. When vaped Boost delivers a smooth and sweet taste, reminiscent of fresh berries with a touch of earthy undertones. Medically, this cultivar is known for its uplifting and mood-enhancing effects, making it a popular choice with patients in the US seeking relief from stress, anxiety, and mild depression. Additionally, its relaxing properties are said to ease muscle tension and chronic pain without causing heavy sedation.
Review
Opening my 10-gram white plastic tub of Aura Therapeutics’ Super Sativa (batch B423), I’m greeted by a muted citrus and pine aroma.
The buds of Super Sativa were on the smaller side, but nicely structured with well-developed bracts. They were mostly light green, accented by occasional flecks of purple and deeper green tones. Dense and slightly spongy to the touch, the buds were generously coated in trichomes ranging from milky white to dark amber, with terracotta pistils scattered throughout.
Super Sativa grinds to a light, fluffy consistency. When squeezed, the bud doesn’t bounce back, and while it leaves a slight residue on my fingers, there’s no noticeable stickiness, meaning it doesn’t pass my Sticky Icky Test.
Disappointingly, there was just over a gram of shake in my tub.
At 190C, in my Venty, Aura Therapeutics’ Super Sativa initial vapour was faint, with a subtle pine flavour. While the exhale had a refreshing lemony note, Super Sativa’s flavour remained mild overall, becoming slightly harsh in the back of my throat once I pushed over 205C. Super Sativa’s effects were light and uplifting, clearheaded, gently euphoric, and had just enough focus to keep me on task.
Aura Therapeutics’ Super Sativa would best be suited as a gentle daytime option.
Will I refill this prescription? No. While Aura Therapeutics’ Super Sativa offered a momentary lift that helped ease some of my stress and settle scattered thoughts, the effects weren’t strong or sustained enough to manage the kind of lingering mental tension I typically medicate for. Even with two dosing caps (0.15g each), the relief was short-lived, leaving me chasing the experience rather than settling into it. At $140, Super Sativa certainly looks the part, with vibrant colours and a frosty trichome finish. In practice, though, its performance was inconsistent and didn’t quite meet my therapeutic needs.
