AURA Therapeutics’s Key Lime Kush is a 27% THC Indica leaning cross between Key Lime Pie and (Kush Mints #11 X Bubba Kush). Cultivated by the Lotus Cannabis Company in the North Okanagan region of British Columbia, Canada, it marked Lotus's inaugural branded flower release in January 2023. Key Lime Kush is harvested and trimmed by hand with her dominant terpenes listed on Catalyst as Caryophyllene, Farnesene, Limonene, Linalool, and Humulene.

Key Lime Pie, also known as "Key Lime Cookies" and "Key Lime GSC," is a hybrid cannabis cultivar and a phenotype of Girl Scout Cookies. The fragrance of Key Lime Pie is characterized by a zesty burst of lime, reminiscent of freshly squeezed lime juice with undertones of sweet creaminess often accompanying this citrusy aroma. Upon inhalation, users are typically greeted with a tangy citrus flavour. This initial burst of citrus gradually transitions to something more chocolatey on the exhale. Key Lime Pie is high in Myrcene, Limonene, and Caryophyllene and is recommended for patients trying to manage symptoms of stress, insomnia, and mild to moderate pain.

Kush Mints #11 is a balanced hybrid cannabis cultivar, originating from a cross between Animal Mints and Bubba Kush. It has a minty, cookie-like aroma with undertones of gas and pine. Kush Mints #11 is popular in the US among recreational users who often report feelings of relaxation, euphoria, and arousal. While medicinal users frequently turn to Kush Mints #11 to alleviate symptoms of anxiety, stress, and depression. Kush Mints #11 is typically high in Limonene, followed by Caryophyllene and Linalool.

Bubba Kush is an Indica-dominant cultivar and according to Royal Queen Seeds, “Bubba Kush's origins only came to light recently after Matt Berger claimed the fame of creating the strain in Florida in the 1990s.” The website goes on to say, that in 1993, Berger acquired seeds from a friend, rumoured to be Northern Lights, which led to the discovery of a compact, bushy phenotype he affectionately dubbed "Bubba." Somewhere along the way “Bubba” was accidentally crossed with a temperamental Kush plant Berger had been growing that tended to "hermie" producing seeds that turned up in a bag Berger had given to B Real and Kenji from Cypress Hill. Berger collected the seeds, planted them, and thus Bubba Kush was born. Bubba Kush is said to have a subtle blend of sweetness with hashy floral notes, reminiscent of coffee with hints of rich spicy chocolate. Bubba Kush’s dominant terpenes are Myrcene, Caryophyllene, and Limonene. This cultivar is often prescribed to patients for its ability to induce deep relaxation, mitigate stress, encourage sleep, and offer relief from chronic pain and anxiety.

As I cracked open my 10-gram tub of AURA Therapeutics's Key Lime Kush (batch 90160), a rush of nostalgia flooded over me. Aromas of lemon, lime, and fuel filled my nose and suddenly, I was transported back to my childhood, standing in the garage alongside my father as he tinkered on one of his trucks, while I sneakily chugged a can of Sprite hoping my mother wouldn’t notice.

Key Lime Kush's buds were predominantly small to medium in size and displayed hues of lighter green with occasional darker green leaves dispersed throughout. The buds were dense and spongy, nicely trimmed and had an even coating of bright orange pistils and trichomes.

Although Key Lime Kush passed the Sticky Icky Test, over time it seemed to lose its terpene richness and aromatic potency, becoming quite muted compared to where it started.

Starting at 180C, Key Lime Kush is a smooth vaping experience but it’s a little lacklustre in the flavour department… A bit citrusy on inhalation with some creamy fuel notes on exhalation. Key Lime Kush’s effects are slightly on the creeper side. On the front end, she is happy and easygoing but as she starts to settle that easygoingness transitions into a loss of all motivation resulting in lazy couch-locking behaviour. Because of this, I found Key Lime Kush was only suitable for after-dinner medicating sessions.

Will I refill this prescription? No. AURA Therapeutics's Key Lime Kush stands out for its potent couch-locking effects which are very similar to Cannatrek’s T25 Topaz. However, as I said above over time it seemed to lose its terpene richness and aromatic potency and it didn’t take long before I found myself chasing after Key Lime Kush's initial effects and requiring more than one dosing cap (a dosing cap for me is 0.15 of a gram) to reach my desired medicating level. Higher price points come with higher expectations. At a price point of $170 for 10 grams or $298 for 20 grams Key Lime Kush is a three but at Compassion pricing $136 for 10 grams Key Lime Kush is a four.
