Chemovar’s Premo OG Kush is an 80/20 Indica dominant cultivar imported from South Africa. She is a cross between Chemdawg, Lemon Thai, and Hindu Kush. Her terpene profile comprises Myrcene, Limonene, Pinene, Caryophyllene, Bisabolol, Ocimene, Humulene, and Linalool.
OG Kush’s legendary status comes from the fact that it’s been on the scene since the 90s when it was a favourite of such music acts as Snopp Dogg and Cypress Hill.
It was first propagated by Matt “Bubba” Berger in Florida, who got the genetics from local growers where it was exclusively shared under the name Kryptonite or Krippy. While Berger is credited as the first to cultivate a Kush seed it didn’t catapult to stardom until Berger shared it with Josh Del Rosso (AKA JoshD) in California.
It’s here in California during the late 90s that Kush was fine-tuned and renamed OG Kush. Contrary to popular belief OG stands for “Original” not Ocean Grown or Original Gangster. JoshD added it to his phenotype to be able to differentiate his plants from the many copycats that flooded the market.
Without OG Kush we wouldn’t have Girl Scout Cookies!
OG Kush is the single most recognizable and widely-used cultivar for medicinal cannabis and is recommended for people suffering from depression, anxiety, pain, and insomnia.
Review
There’s a lot of hype around Chemovar and its flowers. This is a company whose CEO has been active on Reddit, which is a grey area because medicinal cannabis companies aren’t supposed to directly interact with patients.
But the flip to that is, he took feedback about the size of their tubs and has made adjustments accordingly. (Their first release of flowers came in seven-gram tubs. Their next release will be available in 10-gram tubs.)
Similar to Grandiosa, Chemovar also provides a QR code on their containers which provides you with the company’s writeup about their products.
Popping the lid on my seven-gram tub (batch B-085-0622) which was 0.10 of a gram shy the first thing I’m hit with is a strong aroma of pine. But it’s also earthy, woody and spicy all at the same time. The tub is filled with nicely trimmed darker green buds. They are evenly coated with trichomes and stigmas (red hairs) and are mostly medium in size. They are firm, dense, and spongy.
Chemovar’s OG Kush doesn’t pass the Sticky Icky Test. However, it does break up beautifully in the grinder.
Most tubs of medical cannabis come with a humidity pack inside. But Chemovar’s OG Kush was the first one I’ve gotten that included a replacement indicator. They change colour from red to blue when it’s time to replace the humidity pack. A few weeks after opening, mine hasn’t changed in colour.
OG Kush is another one of those cultivars that I was first introduced to by “The Guy”. (Trust me the more of these reviews I write the more I realize just how damn lucky I was to be in Vancouver in the early 2000s and to have gotten an introduction to said “boutique bud” dealer.) I’m happy to say Chemovar’s OG Kush has stayed true to its roots.
Just like the OG Kush of my early 20s Chemovar’s produces a heavy body high that comes on fairly quickly. She is relaxing but not sedating and as her effects settle she leaves me happy, clear-headed, and still able to check things off my to-do list. Starting at 170C up to 210C she’s smooth and easily one of the more enjoyable vapes I’ve had since starting my medicinal cannabis journey.
I can’t lie, I’ve spent the last few weeks trying to pick apart this cultivar and Chemovar. But, other than I’m not a fan of their packaging, I feel like it’s too flashy and until Australia moves towards a more recreational market I firmly believe medicine should come in plain, non-descript containers, I can’t fault them or their product. I’ll admit this is one of the few companies that I’m looking forward to their next round of releases.
Have you tried Chemovar’s Premo OG Kush? Drop a comment, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Wonderful review, have recently added this to my request list after enjoying the Bubba Kush from Indimed and especially with the new deal from Chemovar, 2 x 7g for $118. Hopefully they'll clean up their tubs if their CEO is listening to patients advice on Reddit.
Am also glad I had the pleasure of Amsterdam's lovely strains before and after the millennium.
