Chemovar’s Royal Gorilla is a 22% THC, balanced hybrid and a three-way cross between Chem’s Sister, Sour Dubb, and Chocolate Diesel. Chemovar classifies its flowers into four aroma categories: Fruit, Floral, Fuel, and Earth. Royal Gorilla falls into the Floral category. Royal Gorilla’s dominant terpenes are Caryophyllene, Limonene, Myrcene, Humulene, Linalool, Ocimene, and Pinene.
Chem’s Sister also known as Chemdawg’s Sister is Sativa leaning phenotype of Chemdawg. I covered Chemdawg’s backstory in Beacon’s Ventura Dawg review but for a quick refresher, Chemdawg is often associated with a strong gassy aroma and is touted for her invigorating effects. Typically high in Caryophyllene, Myrcene, and Limonene, Chemdawg is recommended for patients trying to alleviate symptoms of stress and anxiety, nausea, and migraines.
Sour Dubb also known as Sour Dubble is characterized as a Sativa leaning hybrid of unknown origins, although it is believed to be a cross between East Coast Sour Diesel and Sour Bubble. Sour Dubb’s flavour and aroma are said to be intense and sour with an accent of diesel that plays well with her fruity bubblegum undertones. High in Limonene, Linalool, and Caryophyllene Sour dubb is often recommended for patients suffering from appetite loss, chronic fatigue, depression, stress, and chronic pain.
Chocolate Diesel is a Sativa dominant hybrid cultivar created by crossing Sour Diesel and the landrace-descended Chocolate Thai. Chocolate Diesel is said to have a complex, multi-layered aroma that’s surprisingly pleasant and sweet. Like other cultivars in the diesel family, Chocolate Diesel’s flavour is fuel-like and sour. Chocolate Diesel’s most abundant terpenes are Myrcene, Limonene and Caryophyllene and she is typically recommended for patients suffering from conditions such as chronic fatigue, depression or mood swings, nausea and inflammation. However, be warned Chocolate Diesel is said to come on quickly and feel a little racey and overwhelming so if you’re someone who is prone to panic or who has a low tolerance for THC you might want to skip this cultivar.

Opening my two seven-gram tubs of Royal Gorilla (batch B-080-0422) I’m met with an earthy sour diesel aroma with slight floral undertones. Despite being slightly underweight, both tubs contained comparable buds in size, shape and colour. Ranging from light to dark green the medium-sized buds were evenly coated in trichomes and orange stigmas. Dense and spongy Royal Gorilla’s buds fluff up nicely coming out of the grinder passing the Sticky Icky Test.
Starting at 175C in my Venty, Royal Gorilla has a sour floral flavour. It’s not an unpleasant taste but it’s not super enjoyable either. Royal Gorilla’s effects are swift and gentle. A clearheadedness, accompanied by a euphoric rush that transitions into a chill yet still productive high making Royal Gorilla suited for a late morning to late afternoon position in my rotation.
Will I refill Royal Gorilla? No.
Perhaps it’s got something to do with this time of year but my anxiety and stress levels are high, I’m struggling to stay focused to get the simplest of tasks done, and I have zero patience for even the smallest amount of bullshit. All things that I can usually rein in with a couple of puffs. Regrettably, with Royal Gorilla, I frequently found myself pursuing a solace she just couldn’t provide.
I paid $118 for 14 grams of Chemovar’s Royal Gorilla. However, as the seven-gram tubs are phased out and replaced with 10-gram tubs the price has been adjusted to $138.

Just don't get how they expect $5.37 a gram extra, for making their tubs more convenient to the size patients were asking for. Were giving you extra, so you can pay less, no sorry, we mean were giving you less, so you now pay more. I asked the CEO of Stewart Farms this week to make a video showing patients what flowers their using and how their doing the milling process for the new Ready Mix. Might have to go back and ask why the different prices for the same products
The 10g tubs are new. 7g’s are first batch and getting old.
