Heyday recently introduced its innovative range which contained a unique selection of cannabis medications. While there were a couple of products that caught my eye I thought it would be appropriate to start with their CBG Kief, after all, April’s Cannabinoid of the Month was CBG!
Kief is derived from the Arabic word for "joy" or "pleasure," and represents the pure accumulation of loose cannabis trichomes sifted from the flowers or buds through a mesh screen or sieve. Kief often contains a higher concentration of cannabinoids compared to the cannabis flower itself, making it a highly potent cannabis product.
Heyday’s CBG Keif contains 37.6% CBG, is derived from the cultivar CBG White, and is made through solventless trichome separation from select CBG flowers. It is non-psychoactive.
CBG White was bred by Oregon CBD and is the result of converting The White into a CBG dominant line. CBG White has won several awards including 1st Place in the 2019 Oregon Growers Cup, 1st Place in the 2020 Oregon Growers Cup, and 1st Place in the 2021 Golden Grow Awards CBG Potency.
The White, an Indica-dominant hybrid believed to have OG Kush roots, boasts minty green buds heavily covered with trichomes. Its flavour profile is said to harmonise sweet lemony citrus with spicy floral hints and a touch of fresh earthiness. Typically high in Caryophyllene, Myrcene, and Limonene, The White offers potential relief for patients trying to manage symptoms of pain, insomnia, stress, anxiety, and depression.
Review
As I opened the small, dark glass jar of Heyday's CBG Kief (batch 47744), a mix of earthy, nutty, and buttery aromas filled the air. Inside, the Kief had a subtle sparkle and a texture resembling fine powder.
There are various ways to consume Kief. You can sprinkle it into joints or atop freshly packed bowls. Alternatively, if you have the Storz and Bickel dosing cap filling pads, you can layer some Kief on top of those. Kief can also be added straight to food or beverages.
I found pressing a scoop of Kief between some ground flower, similar to making a sandwich was the most convenient method for me. I added Heyday’s CBG Kief into my rotation kind of like you would add salt to your cooking so my vaping temperatures were all over the place and would depend more on the flower I was pairing it with.
Heyday’s CBG Kief had a buttery flavour and when paired with more fruity cultivars it was reminiscent of decadent pastries. Effects wise it consistently delivered a well-balanced and uplifting experience. The CBG was invigorating and clear-headed yet, it also offered a gentle calming effect that brought a sense of tranquillity making daily life more manageable.
Will I refill this prescription? Yes. It’s been nice to have something in my cannabis medicine cabinet that goes beyond the typical THC and CBD products. At $90 for three grams (before shipping) Heyday’s CBG Kief provides a welcome reprieve from the grips of my anxiety without the psychoactive properties of THC making it perfect for use any time of the day.
