MGC Pharma's French Cookies is a unique 20% THC sativa-leaning medicinal cannabis cultivar that’s actually a phenotype of the renowned Platinum Girl Scout Cookies.
When I first started researching French Cookies’s family tree there wasn’t much to find. While most websites mentioned T.H. Seeds’s Adam and Doug as the first people to “pop” a French Cookie seed when it came to actual genetics the best I could find was… “Platinum Girl Scout Cookies Seed in Bag” or “created through a reverse of the classic Platinum Cookies strain”. Even on the T.H. Seeds website French Cookies is described as “After travelling to Cali doing some testing we found a seed in a bag of the legendary Platinum Cookies. Back in the T.H.Seeds lab we grew it out and found a gem of a Cookie.”
I touched on Platinum Girl Scout Cookies’s genetics in Endoca’s Apples and Bananas review. I originally said she was a balanced hybrid cultivar from the Cookies Family and a cross between OG Kush, Durban Poison, and a third unknown cultivar.
However, upon diving deeper into the subject, I found a theory that suggests Platinum Girl Scout Cookies is a phenotype of the original Girl Scout Cookies (the Platinum Cut) created by crossing OG Kush and Durban Poison, without the inclusion of a third, unknown cultivar.
Ultimately, it's all just speculation since the exact genetic origins of any of the Cookies Family's cultivars remain shrouded in mystery.
Nonetheless, Platinum Girl Scout Cookies retains its appeal as a sweet berry-scented cultivar with fruity spiciness, making it a valuable option for patients seeking relief from chronic pain, anxiety, depression, and migraines. Her dominant terpenes are Caryophyllene, Limonene, and Myrcene.
Review
Oh, MGC Pharma’s French Cookies I don’t even know where to start with you. I’m usually someone who meticulously researches my cultivars before I request a prescription for something. But that wasn’t the case with MGC Pharma’s French Cookies. Nope, I pulled the trigger on this one without a second thought. What could possibly go wrong with a phenotype of Platinum Girl Scout Cookies?
Famous last words, am I right?
I initially brought up Platinum Girl Scout Cookies in my article about cartridges. I mentioned that after a lot of discussion with the budtender, my friend and I ended up purchasing two cartridges of Platinum Girl Scout Cookies. I also shared that I almost immediately regretted my decision.
I'm sure some of you might have wondered if I ever went back to buy the ounce. Well, of course, I did! And I'm glad I did because, at that time, Platinum Girl Scout Cookies was absolutely my kind of cultivar! She had it all – Platinum Girl Scout Cookies brought euphoria, clearheadedness, creativity, and energy, all packed into gorgeous, dense, dark green buds that smelled sweet and fruity. So you can see why I was so excited to try MGC Pharma’s French Cookies.
As I opened my 10-gram tub of MGC Pharma's French Cookies, I was met with only the faintest of aromas… stale, old product. Batch 90024 initially had an expiration date set for the end of May 2023, but it has now been extended to the end of March 2024 as per the information on the honahlee website.
From a visual perspective, the buds appeared fine. They were dense, had a yellowish-green hue with a hint of purple leaves, and were uniformly covered in trichomes and orange stigmas. However, upon closer inspection, it became evident that the buds were rather dry and exceptionally brittle. When you add the absence of a humidity pack inside the tub to the equation, it's clear to see why French Cookies doesn't pass the Sticky Icky Test.
Then there was the issue with seeds. I’ve reviewed 24 flowers, MGC Pharma's French Cookies is my 25th and my very first with seeds. I’m not here to argue about how and why this occurred. All I'm going to emphasize is that, from a gardening or farming perspective, when an annual plant starts channelling its energy into producing seeds, its flowers often experience a decline since they are no longer the plant’s primary focus.
MGC Pharma's French Cookies produces a boost in mood and mental clarity, but these effects were disappointingly short-lived. To achieve my desired therapeutic level, I often used two or more dosing caps during my medication sessions. (A dosing cap for me is 0.15 of a gram.) Adding to the frustration, once the temperature on my Mighty+ crossed the 195C threshold, French Cookies became excruciatingly harsh to the point where it went from being a potential source of benefits to a genuinely unpleasant experience.
Priced at $135, this medication, to be honest, falls short in every aspect and it's safe to say I won't be considering a refill.
