Patch Therapeutics’s Jack of Hearts is the cultivar Jack Herer a 22% THC Sativa leaning medical cannabis flower grown in Thailand. Harvested and trimmed by hand then cured for three weeks, Jack of Hearts is Patch Therapeutics’s first flower to hit the Australian medicinal market. With a terpene profile that comprises Ocimene, Limonene, Caryophyllene, Terpineol and Myrcene Jack of Hearts is recommended for patients trying to manage symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression.
We can't discuss Jack Herer the cultivar without mentioning the remarkable person it was named after. Jack Herer was an American cannabis activist who was sometimes referred to as the “Emperor of Hemp”. He wrote and self-published the book The Emperor Wears No Clothes in 1985. In the book Herer dives into the history of cannabis production, presenting extensive evidence and documentation to criticize the US government's ban on hemp cultivation. He highlights the plant's versatility in producing paper, fibre, fuel, food, plastic alternatives, and medicine. The book also explores who benefits from the criminalization of cannabis and prohibition, offering strategies to expedite legalization efforts. Today, it remains a key reference in the movement to legalize cannabis.
Jack Herer (the cultivar) is a cross of Northern Light #5, Haze, and Shiva Skunk.
Northern Lights was first covered in my review of Promethean BioPharma’s Super Silver Haze. Considered one of the most famous cultivars of all time Northern Lights was created by crossing Afghani with Thai. There are 11 different versions of this cultivar, with numbers 1, 2, and 5 becoming the most popular. Northern Lights is recommended for patients suffering from stress, anxiety, insomnia, and chronic pain. Her dominant terpenes are Myrcene, Caryophyllene, and Limonene.
Haze is another cultivar I originally detailed in my review of Promethean BioPharma’s Super Silver Haze. Originating in the 60s in Santa Cruz, California Haze has been a staple in the cannabis industry for decades. Recommended for the treatment of depression, stress, and bipolar disorder, but also for digestive issues, lack of appetite, and inflammation Haze’s dominant terpenes are Myrcene, Pinene, and Caryophyllene.
Shiva Skunk is said to be one of the most potent varieties of the Skunk family and is a cross between Skunk #1 and Northern Lights #5 originally bred by Sensi Seeds. Shiva Skunk is known for its spicy citrus skunk aroma and sweet citrus skunk flavour that intensifies upon exhale. Patients describe the effects as clean, happy, and clear-headed, relieving both mind and body. Typically high in Myrcene, Caryophyllene and Pinene Shiva Skunk is recommended for treating conditions such as chronic stress and anxiety, chronic pain from injury or illness, and insomnia.
Review
The Patch Therapeutics brand has some of my favourite packaging on the Australian medicinal market. It's vibrant without being tacky, and they include a new humidity pack in the box. Jack of Hearts has a price point of $155, but it should be noted that Patch Therapeutics is dedicated to “reinvesting $2 from every unit sold to local South East Asian communities to improve access to quality education.”
Opening my 10-gram tub of Patch Therapeutics’s Jack of Hearts (batch 000020) I’m first greeted by floral and minty scents followed by faint hints of grapefruit.
Jack of Heart’s buds displayed the classic spade shape, ranging from light green to dark olive green in hue.
With its even dusting of trichomes and abundance of amber pistils, Jack of Hearts doesn't pass the Sticky Icky Test, as it lacked the kinetic sand characteristics when tipped out of my grinder.
Starting at 175°C in my Venty, Patch Therapeutics’s Jack of Hearts delivers a muted minty flavour on both inhalation and exhalation. While 195C was my preferred sweet spot, I almost always pushed this cultivar up to 210C to finish. For effects, Jack of Hearts offers a cerebral high that is clear-headed and euphoric. As the high progresses, Jack of Hearts’s initial burst of energy settles into a more gentle, relaxing body buzz. Jack of Hearts is best suited for late morning to early afternoon consumption.
Will I refill this prescription? No. However, I will finish out the original refills that I got with this prescription. I sometimes struggled to stay focused and motivated when medicating with Patch Therapeutics’s Jack of Hearts. This tendency to become easily sidetracked led to moments of anxiety that I inadvertently created because I didn’t stick to the tasks at hand. Additionally, I’ve had my tub for three weeks now and feels like Jack of Hearts has lost some of its initial oomph. (I’ll take some responsibility for that because even though they gave me a brand new humidity pack to toss into my tub… I didn’t use it. My reviews are always written based on an “as is, where is” policy, so it never occurred to me to toss it in until I was doing the final proofread for this review.)
While Jack of Hearts misses the mark when it comes to meeting my medicinal needs I'm still curious to see what other offerings Patch Therapeutics will bring to the market.

And of course another fine review.
I got it more for nostalgia. I didn’t mind the effects but not my profile for the time of day I got it for. Of course it looks similar to how I remember it except we got the sticky stinky version😁
