Motherplant’s MRZ is the cultivar Mega Runtz, a cross between Runtz and Don Mega. This 28% THC cultivar is hydroponically grown indoors, under LED lights, in rockwool by Big League Cultivation. A 60/40 Indica dominant cultivar, MRZ’s major terpenes are Limonene, Cedrene, Carene, and Terpineol with Linalool, Myrcene, Humulene, and Terpinene listed on the tub as minor terpenes.
Runtz also known as Runtz OG is a evenly balanced hybrid cannabis cultivar created by the Cookies Family by crossing Zkittlez with Gelato. Runtz has gained quite a reputation for its sweet and fruity scent, complemented by a touch of gentle spiciness in its flavour. Notably, Runtz won Leafly Strain of the Year in 2020. Swiftly bringing on an uplifting experience followed by a sense of euphoria that eases into a sedating couch-lock sensation, it’s easy to see why Runtz is a favourite on the American medicinal market. Recommended for patients treating conditions such as insomnia, chronic pain, appetite loss or nausea and chronic stress or anxiety Runtz is typically high in Caryophyllene, followed by Limonene and Myrcene.
Don Mega is another evenly balanced hybrid cultivar created by crossing GMO (Garlic Cookies) and Black Banana. Don Mega is normally associated with higher THC levels with creeper effects said to be tingly, euphoric, and full-bodied. Sour, spicy, earthy, chemical, cheesy, and fruity are all words that have been used to describe both Don Mega’s taste and aroma. Typically high in Limonene, Caryophyllene, and Myrcene Don Mega is recommended for patients suffering from insomnia, depression, chronic stress or anxiety and nausea or appetite loss.
Review
Cracking open my 10-gram tub of Motherplant's MRZ (Mega Runtz) batch 230942, I'm met with a sweet and fruity aroma that’s underscored by subtle gassy notes.
My tub consisted of mostly petite buds. They were light to dark green with a good mix of purple leaves and orange stigmas. While these buds were dense, they still maintained a spongy texture. MRZ doesn't quite pass the Sticky Icky Test; instead, the buds leaned towards the drier and more brittle side.
It's interesting to note that this is the second medicinal cannabis tub I've received with its bottom pushed out. Strangely enough, both containers held products that were on the drier and more brittle side. Equally peculiar was the fact that breaking down both sets of flowers for my dosing caps for the week seemed to trigger a runny nose. (The other flower was Alfie Therapeutic’s Queen Sangria.)
Starting at 175C MRZ is velvety smooth and maintains this smoothness all the way up to 210C in my Mighty+. However, with a Certificate of Analysis stating a total terpene content of 5.19%, I expected a more robust burst of flavour which sadly didn't quite materialize.
True to her genetics MRZ produces floaty and relaxing effects and with just one dosing cap (0.15 grams), she effortlessly dissolves any negative or stressful thoughts I might have been experiencing. The addition of a second dosing cap ushers in a more sedating and couch-locking experience making MRZ suitable for an evening slot in my rotation.
The real question is… Am I going to refill this prescription? I’ve got to be honest I’ve had a bit of an internal struggle with this one. MRZ is Motherplant's debut in the Australian medicinal cannabis market, and as with any first release, there's a learning curve. But with a price point of $160, I’m disappointed with the abundance of tiny flowers in my tub. Absolutely, the name "Mega Runtz" and its genetic ties to Girl Scout Cookies suggest the possibility of smaller flowers. As I've noted before with my review of High Country’s KK Mints, petite flowers in and of themselves aren't a dealbreaker. However, when a tub contains nearly six grams of them, it signals a potential quality control issue.
While MRZ has desirable genetics, a solid terpene profile, and consistent effects I've opted to delay a refill until the next batch comes out.

Another valuable and informative review. I always enjoy the genetic part of the review. Some good points raised and I have to be honest what I really often want to see is at least four stars and an inclusion in your daily rotation. So I’m as disappointed as you when it doesn’t come up to scratch. I recently wanted to change my morning slot and installed Grandiosa Jilly Bean, unfortunately it was disappointing. It seemed like a nice flower a little dry but okay. But when I put it through the vape I got virtually nothing from it or at least a very mild gentle change of mood. I’m sure it’s just me but it’s such a pain when you get a dud as it’s not an easy thing to change. I was saved by the fact that my doctor had included 2 flowers on the script to rotate. The other was Alfie Queen Sangria, she was fine but dry and overpriced for what she is, but she is effective. My favourite there in that slot was Ventura Dawg, the Ventura comes out on top there and $35 cheaper.
