Phytoca’s Zurple Punch is a 21% THC Indica-leaning cultivar created by crossing Purple Punch and Zkittlez. Zurple Punch has been on the Australian market for about two months and contains a total terpene content of 2.84% with Farnesene, Caryophyllene, Limonene, and Linalool being the top four.
Purple Punch is a cross between Granddaddy Purple and Larry OG. Praised for its sweet berry and grape flavours Purple Punch is said to pack both a head and a body high. Sometimes referred to as a “dessert” cultivar, Purple Punch is typically high in Caryophyllene, Limonene, and Pinene and is recommended for patients trying to treat symptoms of nausea, stress, minor pain, and insomnia.
Zkittles was bred by 3rd Gen Family and Terp Hogz of California in the 2010s and is a cross between Grape Ape and Grapefruit. In 2023 Hogz settled with a certain candy company over an alleged trademark infringement and announced that he had officially changed the cultivar’s name to “The Original Z”.
The Original Z took first place in 2015 for the Indica category at both the Michigan and San Fransisco Cannabis Cups. The next year it took first place at the Emerald Cup California. Another cultivar that is hailed for its sweet fruity flavours The Original Z is typically high in Caryophyllene, Linalool, and Humulene and is recommended for patients suffering from chronic or acute pain, stress, and arthritis or other inflammatory diseases.
Review
Opening my 10-gram tub of Phytoca’s Zurple Punch batch 90042 the first thing that comes to mind is Kool-Aid’s Tropical Punch. The aroma is fairly intense at first but 18 days later the flowers hardly smell at all.
The flowers were mostly light green with a few darker green leaves and barely any purple ones. Zurple Punch’s buds had minimal stigmas (red hairs) and her trichome structures were petite when compared to other flowers. Although firm and dense with good bounce back the flowers weren’t sticky at all so it’s not possible for Zurple Punch to pass the Sticky Icky Test. The tub also lacked a humidity pack.
Zurple Punch’s flowers were delicate and dry and could’ve been trimmed better. Every time I touched them a little more fell off. (The day I opened my tub on the left. The day I posted this review on the right.)
Starting at 165C Phytoca’s Zurple Punch tastes just like Hubba Bubba grape flavoured bubble gum. Although the taste fades quickly she remains smooth all the way up to 205C. Zurple Punch’s effects have a nice creeper feel. She starts off clear-headed and euphoric but as she settles she’s very relaxing and mildly munchie-inducing. She melts away any stress or anxiety I may have been feeling before my medicating session with ease.
At $19 a gram, she’s the most expensive flower I’ve tried to date. Previously it was SatiVite’s Moorok 21 another LSO flower at $18.49 a gram. (What is LSO? LSO or Live Soil Organic is made from worm castings, plant material compost, and pumice. LSO is typically high in nutrient-dense microbial life and thus shouldn’t require any additional fertilisers. In theory, it’s the best way to grow premium medicinal cannabis.)
A high price brings even higher expectations. Does Zurple Punch live up to those expectations? On paper she does. According to the write-up on honahlee, “This strain has been hand-picked based on its rare genetic lineage and organic cultivation techniques. This flower is grown in a small batch micro-cultivation facility in British Colombia, by cannabis geneticists with over 30 years of experience.” Where she is “watered, harvested, and trimmed by hand.”
However, at some point, Phytoca made the decision not to include a humidity pack in their tubs of Zurple Punch and the result was brittle flowers with fleeting effect. Yes, she is the best-tasting flower I’ve had to date but when you compare Zurple Punch at $190 to Tasmanian Botanics's Jade at $125, she’s not worth the extra $65.

Does sound tasty. Crazy how these companies go so far for their strains, but miss out on simple things like freshness. Price seems a touch overwhelming, knowing companies like Rainbow Region are offering LSO flowers at half the price.
Might be worth a try if the flavour is really that good. Disappointing that it was so dry... maybe the next batches will come with humidity pouches 👍
