*Subscriber Only Content* Celebrating One Year: My Medicinal Cannabis Journey
Today is a pretty big day. I’m celebrating one year since beginning my medicinal cannabis journey. A couple of amazing things have happened over the past year. I’ve gone from having multiple migraines a month to just two in the last 11 months. Not living in constant fear of when and how debilitating my next migraine will be, has been unbelievably liberating, greatly reducing my anxiety and significantly improving my quality of life.
It’s also July 24th, my 24th post, and I’m over 200 subscribers! I’ve reviewed 14 flowers, three oils, and one vaporizer. I’ve also written five Terpene of the Months. I’ve been averaging more than 4,000 views a month, have a higher than 51% email open rate, and have been steadily gaining a subscriber a day.
Yep, there’s a lot to celebrate!
For my very first “subscriber only” post I’m going to cover my current medication rotation but at the same time, I’m including three questions I would greatly appreciate feedback on. A lot is going on behind the scenes here at AusCannaReviews and I want to ensure my content reflects what you, the subscriber, need/want and that I’m investing my resources in the right places.
I suffer from anxiety, insomnia (lack of deep sleep), and migraines. They all feed off each other in a vicious circle. I also have adenomyosis and PCOS and while I’m not in everyday chronic pain I’ve endured horrible periods paired with what doctors described as “hormonal” migraines for close to 32 years. (So, ah… yeah… in case you missed it, I’m a 40-something female.)
It wasn’t until I was in a car accident in my late teens when someone ran a red light and smashed into my vehicle, where I subsequently hit the left side of my head on the car’s door frame that I started getting migraines more frequently.
The main triggers for my migraines are lack of sleep (anything less than six hours), stress, anxiety, not eating properly, not drinking enough water or going too many days (three or more) without coffee, bright lights or different shades of light bulbs (think warm light vs cool light) in the same room, pungent aromas, and occasionally higher frequency sounds. Yeah, nah it’s fun being me.
How do I manage my triggers? If you’ve been here a while you know that I’m continuously changing my flowers, I do this because I build tolerance quickly. If I persistently use the same flower, by day three it starts to become less effective and by day six I’m doubling down on my dosing caps.
In a perfect world, I’d rotate between six to eight different flowers. I’m not there yet. However, here’s my current rotation:
Early Morning: I’m an early riser and like to have my morning vape and coffee before anyone else in the house wakes up. Most days I start with Promethean BioPharma’s Super Silver Haze. Why? It’s the most uplifting and energizing cultivar I’ve had since starting my medicinal cannabis journey and it always puts me in a great mood.
Late Morning: I work from home most days. Late morning is usually when I take our dog for a walk so I tend to still reach for a flower that’s more energizing. SatiVite’s Moorok 21 was in rotation for a while, but she has been replaced with MedCan’s Frozen Lemons. Why? It’s more bang for your buck at $136 for 10 grams vs Moorok at $129 for seven grams.
When I’ll be out of the house and might not get the chance to have a medicating session should the need arise, I like to mix some Tasmanian Botanics Balanced 25:25 oil into my probiotic yogurt. Why? It enhances and extends the effects of whatever flower I’m currently vaping.
Afternoon: A couple of things come into play when choosing my afternoon flower. If I’m staying home and not going anywhere, I reach for Chemovar’s OG Kush. Why? It’s a strong body high that’s relaxing but not sedating, that’s perfect for unwinding at home after getting everything on my to-do list done.
However, if I’m still planning on leaving the house and being social my go-to is Tasmanian Botanics’s Jade. Why? While Chemovar’s OG Kush is relaxing, it doesn’t do enough to quiet my overthinking mind. Whereas, Tasmanian Botanics’s Jade is relaxing and slightly sedating but not in a couch-locking kind of way. It melts away my anxiety but still leaves me motivated enough to want to go out, which can sometimes be a very, very thin line.
Evening: No matter how my day has gone I almost always end it the same way… a cuppa tea, a small cheese plate, and a vape. My evening flower has been the most challenging to nail down. While MedCan’s Space Age Cake is the flower that’s been the most sedating and mind-quieting, cutting down on the amount of time it takes me to fall asleep, I’m yet to find a flower that has increased my deep sleep minutes.
(I’ve recently started taking Humacology 3:200:15 Relaxing Full Spectrum oil. There is a titration period with oils, so it’s too early to know for sure meaning a full review is still a few weeks away. However, there appears to be an increase in my deep sleep minutes since starting this new oil.)
There you have it, my current medicinal cannabis rotation. With so many new products coming out over the coming months I’m sure there will be some tweaking to this list. But for now, thank you again for taking the time to answer the three questions above. I hope you’ll continue to support my work as we learn together.
I’ve been ranting on about starting a podcast that is patient run for a while now (female, late 30s, QLD) something that focuses on more diverse voices and is focused on access, patient stories and what's happening in the political and scientific landscape in Aus. You should join us in the MCOz discord server - a few of us have been organising and ruminating about what we could create. Love your work ❤️
Great idea for a review and really helpful info for my own issues. In some ways my MC is similar but also different. I have three flowers in rotation Beacon Ventura Dawg for day, Alfie Mac1 for afternoon my evening flower is currently Phytoca Nightqueen was Cannatrek Panama. I also use the Humicology 3:200:15 love that oil, plus in rotation Cannatrek Topaz oil and the Heyday 26. I would recommend the Heyday 26 as it’s nicely euphoric. I have had to break from the thc oils however as they were driving up my tolerance. Three days today and the flower is working better than ever.
Thanks for sharing the personal side to your medicine.
